Poonam Lakhani is an employment and business attorney with The Prinz Law Firm. She focuses her practice primarily on employment discrimination, retaliation, wage and hour claims, and retaliatory discharge claims. Ms. Lakhani also has experience representing physicians and negotiating physician employment agreements.

She is an experienced litigator who practices before both federal and state courts. Ms. Lakhani also represents clients before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Illinois Human Rights Commission, and other administrative agencies.

Ms. Lakhani represents many small to mid-sized business clients with various commercial matters, including incorporation, shareholder agreements, partnership agreements, contract negotiations, and other transactional matters. She is focused on developing creative and cost-effective solutions for her clients.

Prior to joining The Prinz Law Firm, Ms. Lakhani interned in the litigation division of the EEOC, for the labor relations department of the Chicago Board of Education, and in-house at Verizon Wireless.

Dedicated to Service

Throughout her career, Ms. Lakhani has dedicated much of her free time to public service. She is a member of the South-Asian Bar Association of Chicago (SABA Chicago), for which she previously served as community chair. She also served as a Trustee on the South-Asian Bar Association Foundation. She assisted many income-eligible individuals with various legal matters though the Cyriac Kappil Pro Bono Legal Clinic. Ms. Lakhani also volunteered with the Southern Poverty Law Center to help victims of labor trafficking.

Ms. Lakhani has been named a Super Lawyers Rising Star every year since 2016.

Ms. Lakhani is fluent in Hindi and Sindhi.

Ms. Lakhani served as Symposium Editor on the Journal of Women, Gender and the Law while in law school. She represented DePaul at the Philip C. Jessup Regional Moot Court Competition where she was awarded 10th place for Best Brief. She was also awarded a number of scholarships during her time in law school, including the DePaul Law Merit Scholarship and Asian Pacific American Law Students Association Scholarship.
