Laura Feldman is a certified professional mediator with Prinz. She completed her mediation certification at Northwestern University’s Pritzker School of Law in conjunction with the preeminent Center for Conflict Resolution.
Laura has extensive experience investigating highly sensitive and often high-stakes employment matters, making expert recommendations, and attempting to resolve conflicts before they lead to litigation. Her impartiality and skill resulted in her being appointed a Special Executive Inspector General (SEIG) by the State of Illinois, after years of working as an investigator at the federal level.
Laura has practiced employment law for over seventeen years with a focus on employment matters, especially workplace sexual misconduct, which includes sexual harassment and sexual assault. She also concentrates on pregnancy discrimination, gender discrimination, workplace retaliation, and whistleblower matters.
Laura brings unique experience to her mediation work. She served for several years as a Trial Attorney at the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the federal agency charged with responding to claims of discrimination and retaliation, and later as Attorney Advisor to an EEOC Commissioner.
At the EEOC, Laura sharpened her skills in conducting neutral investigations and making impartial recommendations. She participated in and oversaw numerous aspects of investigative work, developed protocols for investigations, and advised investigators. Laura also designed and conducted investigative trainings for EEOC staff, including trainings on trauma-informed interviewing, and both wrote and sought the enforcement of several consent decrees. She further advised the EEOC’s Commissioners on various matters, including sex and pregnancy discrimination, and strategy during complex litigation matters.
Laura brings an efficient, personable, and perceptive approach to her work. Understanding the financial and emotional toll that litigation often requires of parties, Laura marshals her skills to help parties converge toward negotiating a resolution that serves all stakeholders and allows them to move forward with peace of mind.
